A long weekend at the beach

#

What better way to relax and connect with nature; a walk along the beach with your  much loved dog, some good food, good wine and great company. And for the quiet times why not relax and rejuvenate that very special piece.

Thats what Alexis (an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint devotee) did.  Looking over at the ocean from her Avalon beach retreat, which is very much in its original condition, she brought back to life a great find from a second hand shop. For her piece Alexis chose Pure White.

Prior to painting it was necessary to clean and rub the piece, with mentholated spirits, to remove many years of “dust build-up”. Two coats of Chalk Paint were applied over it, with the “small” brush, covering the previously painted and varnished finish.          A slight all over rub, with a superfine sandpaper, was added to the process to give it a smoother finish.

Clear wax was rubbed into the entire piece, with a clean dry cloth, paying special attention to the the two door panels. And finally a  layer of dark wax was applied.

Alexis achieved that perfect balance between polished and time-worn softness.
